Girls Day Out

We had a lovely afternoon with Marmee, Becky and Gracie at the ballet matinee. The littles were properly smitten with the story and dancers. In true RG fashion, Roo picked that One moment of silence before the next dance and said "And Cue Music" audibly. Em "Oh'd" and "Ah'd" all the way through and was echoed by Gracie.

Afterwards, we had a fancy lady tea party at Nannie's house. Tea (apple juice), pretty tea cookies and chocolates, and fine china simply amazed the littles. To add to the ambiance, Nannie had the house decorated for Christmas and turned on the record player... Something they'd never seen before. All in all, a truly adorable and lovely day.

So many possible responses...

Em just created this scenario with her Barbie dolls. She said they are all swimming together.

personal style

These 2 have been trying out all kinds of crazy, in the name of personal style, of late. Sometimes it works and sometimes it's a train wreck. On this particular day, it all seemed to align in an eclectic hobo chic kind of awesome that only a 5 year old can truly pull off. I'm a little jealous.

Status

It's been a long dry spell here on The Rowdy Girls blog. A lot has gone on. The laziest possible way to update this bad boy is to do a little copy'n'paste. So, without further adieu... May through September in Facebook status updates. (stop judging me)

May 4: the girls are playing Dick and Jane. I have been dubbed 'Mother', Mo dog is Puff, Emme is Jane and Ruby refuses to answer to anything but... Dick.

May 11: ‎Have you ever seen a fairy princess hulk out of her shiny swirly dress? You shoulda been here this afternoon when my growin' girl raised her arms and shredded her dress. The next attraction was a partially clothed mad-as-hell fairy princess.

May 13: ‎"Moooooooo-m. I gotta surprise for yooooou." Then, she jumps and spins around, presents her tushy and says, "My bottom!"

May 13: Impromptu dance party tonight at bedtime. We can't help it. Pumped Up Kicks gets you moving, want to or not.

May 20: I sent them outside to wash the porch and water the plants with a spray bottle. Hope it takes a while.

May 22: We have descended on Team Cheese My Head with 2 rowdy girls and 2 dogs. Then, to make it the best day ever, Aunt Kaki dropped by. I could probably leave and they'd never notice.

May 24: 2 things... I recommend earbuds and iPods for road trips with loud backseat talkers. And, having twins pays off when one locks herself in the toilet stall, then needs help. No sliding under the door for me. Sissy did the dirty work.

May 25: Ruby just asked me what Jesus' last name is. I'm just waiting for her to ask how old he is. Once she asked me what Jesus did, like for a living. Then, she wanted to know about God. And, how about the Lord, she asked. Finally, she asked me "What's this peace thing?" So, I launch into an answer and she interrupts and tells me "No. Piece with an I, not with an E. What's this piece in the bathtub?"

May 31: remember the freshly painted beds?.

June 8: Happy Anniversary date. Blues on the Green with the fam. Photo compliments of Emme.

June 9: I heard a harmonica and followed the noise to find Ruby tuning up while on the potty.

June 10: confiscated at 6am from the RGs room: 2 booklights, one spray bottle of water, 1 ink pen, 1 princess coloring book. And they were acting GUILTY. Because of the 5am house sneakery or did they plan to McGyver that stuff into more naughtiness?

June 10: I've banished the girls to their room because the fighting is making me insane. Now Em is playing the harmonica from her bed like she's on the cell block. Wow.

June 12: Ruby's latest joke: knock knock. Who's there? Mary Murphy. Mary Murphy who? Mary Murphy says Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

June 13: day one of a yeast elimination trial for Ruby is not going well. She is Begging for fruit and cheese...both off the list. It may be a long week.

June 18: ‎best part of today? Hearing Ruby mispronounce magnificent over and over. "MagniCiFent!" Makes me smile every time.

June 20: Ruby gently pointed out today that the Prairie Dawn doll I got her for her b-day was actually Betty Lou. Awesome.

June 20: Emme just ran out of her room, voice full of emergency, saying "Mom! There's big trouble!"... promptly followed by "I forgot my teddy bear, Mrs. Coconut, and Ruby needs the chicken."

June 21: So, Ruby's taken to narrating her frustrations like they're a page out of a story. After getting in trouble at the lunch table and having a cup taken away I heard her muttering under her breath "Ruby was very angry. Once again her cup was taken away by the mother. What was she going to do? She had to think about it."

June 23: Saw the Iron Giant at Alamo Drafthouse this morning. Ruby said it was almost as good as Sesame St.

June 25: Daddy date night... They're headed to the ball game

June 26: Ruby masqueraded as "the famous fantastic pajama boy" and Emme was a fairy hairy princess.

June 29: ‎Rowdy Girls for lease. They come with great pipes and a lot of octane. Please return when they are tired. And quiet.

July 2: Emme told me her breath smelled like a honey badger. And yes. It was that.bad.

July 4: Emme and Ruby have started the campaign for a gold fish. They plan to name him Bubbles and are promising to love him, feed him and play with him. It's the last part that gives me great concern.

{Interlude: movies, concerts, swimming, museums, story times, playmates}

July 13: Jelly Bean is sick :( My 30lb kid who has not eaten in 2 days is not throwing up, but the low blood sugar meanies have landed. I was crouched on the floor feeding her a spoon of honey and sips of gatorade to get her back to the land of human. She's coherent and playing on her iPod now. And I have whiplash.

July 18 ‎: swimming with sweet friends, breakfast for dinner, listening to Suzuki book 1 and watching Jamie and the girls play dress-up dolls.... A day of happy.

July 20: ‎Emme said she's going to play softball, boyball and basketball. Boyball, she said, is what our neighbor plays. Aka: volleyball.

July 21: It looks like they're playing dolls. But really, this is a fortress, stockpiled with a bathroom and cupcakes. So, they're totally set for the next invasion.

July 23: Night one of Project: Quit Thumb Sucking. The prize... A Cinderella doll.

July 25: success on night 2 of Project Thumbs Out. Now to make it to Friday for the phase 1 prize. And to make it through the day, since Em wants to rehash the details every.5.minutes.

July 27: Ruby said she and Emme are going to build a space rocket. I asked her what they were going to use and she just sing-songed "you'll seeeee." Ruh Roh.

July 28: Job interview

Aug 1: Ruby was on the verge of a time out. She calmed enough to discuss options for managing her anger.... Decided on some chill time in her room with music. When I checked on her she was reading "Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day".

Aug 3: I just heard Em yell from her room "Where's.My.Supersuit?" (#frozone)

Aug 5: At the diner, Ruby finished eating and announced, "Well, I'm done. The fun is over. It's time to go." Then, she slung her blue sequined purse on her shoulder and tried to climb over Jamie to exit the booth.

Aug 6: Piano in the house!

Aug 7: I'm an auntie again! My amazing nephew, Sebastian Michael, arrived tonight... on his due date. My rockstar sister put in 40 hours of labor. I am so proud of her and so relieved and grateful to have them both safely through this adventure!

Aug 12: Announced the new job and move

Aug 18: Instead of going to the children's museum, we're at radiology. Emme says she swallowed a flashlight battery. The catch? I threw the flashlight away at least a month ago. No way to verify but X-ray... Dr just called. Nothing on films. She's clear. I am breathing again.

Aug 22: Kicked off homeschool kinder with a breakfast date. Next up, field trip!

Aug 26: Homeschool perk: it's 8:10 and we're in our jammas and I'm not stuck in the horrendous line of traffic at the school!

Aug 27: using the cover of a Lego man, Ruby mugged Jamie for "$101 dollars". The Lego man said it would be used for the new "Cantankerous Super Hero Show".

Sept 3: I think we found a house. Now to wait. Labor Day weekend is slowing down the information and conformation. More lessons in patience ♥

Sept 9: so thankful for my sweet parents, who are dog sitting for us this month while we get moved. Maggie and Mo let themselves out today and my folks spent hours searching. Thankful, too, for the family that found them and called the number on the tags. Everyone is home at McGrand house now. Praise God!

Sept 16: What a day! As we pulled into the driveway, coming home from a week at the McGrands, a realtor called. House showing at 5! So... We threw all the bags back in the car and went out to eat for Jamie's birthday dinner. Let's have some prayers for a sold house for J's special day!

Sept 19: today's PSA: ziplocks and rubber gloves... not just for kitchens. Keep a set in the car, why don't ya? They're the perfect accessory for a car covered in vomit.

Sept 20: God is SO good. We have a contract pending on the house. It was only on the market for 5 days! J got moved into the new place today. The movers are scheduled for a week from today. WOW.

Sept 21: Homeschool PE break at the Y swimming pool.

Sept 22: The packers come on Monday and the movers on Tues. What do I need to hold back and/or transport myself besides my kids and the coffee maker?

Sept 26: The movers come today. This is what I found in Em's pre-packed suitcase.

Sept 29: The girls just met this kid at the park by the new house. He said his name is George but the girls can call him Henry. Perfect.
