Fabulous Aunt Kaki

The fabulous Aunt Kaki has been hanging out with us this week. This is particularly wonderful while J is away on business. Though he is missing all the fun.

Em thinks Kaki is IT and tells her, "Aki, Lu You!" (translation: Kaki, I love you).
Last night Em chased shadows with Kaki and spent some quality time in the sandbox.

Then, after her bath, Em selected a lovely pair of black patent mary janes to wear with her blue buggy pajamas. And tap danced for Roo, Kaki and I. And refused to take them off and wore the shoes to bed. I tiptoed in several hours later to remove them.

Roo thinks Kaki is hysterical and usually ends up doubled over with laugher by the time Kaki finishes making Elmo dance. Last night she could barely stand up as Kak chased her around the nursery while telling Roo she was going to get her belly bugs (on her jammies).
I think today if you just said, "belly bugs" to Roo, she would tinkle a little.

Lu You, Kaki!

Signing Time

Em and Roo love all things Signing Time. The love affair began early. Roo was around 11 months old here and signing "eat/hungry".

Now they have signs for eat, drink, cup, more, fish, dog, cat, mouse, horse, cow, donkey, monkey, frog, lion, crocodile, hippo, rhino, dolphin, kangaroo, cracker, banana, cereal, juice, milk, water, baby, mother, father, grandpa, grandma, ball, signing, car, time, play, letters A-Z, numbers 1-10, etc.

Some signs are more complicated than their little hands can create. But, they recognize and understand the sign when I use it. And it's really added to their vocabulary, too!

Independent Candidate's World

Roo and Em have decided to throw their collective limp body weight and substantial voice power behind a third party candidate for change.

Is Cookie Monster is a front runner for VP? Look out Dorothy.

He does have a catchy campaign jingle. I defy you to get it out of your head. I know I can't.

A Home of My Own

The RGs are movin' on up to the sweet side.

Specifically, the Rose Petal Cottage. Conveniently located in our living room. For now.

The stove, washing machine, sink, baby cradle and little red chair from Nannie's house are all moved in. The changing table isn't that big of a hit right now. It might double as extra counter space so Em can roll out some cookies. Or snake cakes. Now that she has the counter space.

The highlight of the new place is the door. They "knock knock" and we all say, "Who Is It?" in a sing song voice. Lots of laughs every time.

Cookie Monster, Elmo and Ernie have all been invited in for goldfish crackers and juice.

They all behaved themselves. Thank goodness.

Flashback Friday

These pictures were all taken between 4 and 6 months of age. I love that they pose essentially the same way every time. Roo's head tilt and Em's raised eyebrows. We were still wondering about their eye color during this time. Roo's kept getting lighter. Em's kept getting darker. Now I've got a blue eyed blondie and a hazel-brown eyed brunette. And they still pose much the same way.

Shake N Bake Elmo

Apparently, Elmo peed Roo's bed this morning.

When I opened the nursery door the scent of urine smacked me upside the head. Her sheets, crib bumper, pillow, Nannie blanket, doll baby, puppy and Elmo were soaked and smelly.
(After typing this out, I am now aware we have a few too many items in the bed. I didn't even mention the 2 board books and the crib mirror.)
And Roo was yelling, "ELMO!" "ELMO!"
So, I take it to mean that the little red guy is the culprit.

Of course, I could be wrong. There was a diaper lying on the floor next to the crib.

So, everything lands in the washing machine. Everything but Elmo. He's not water friendly.

How do you get the pee smell out of Elmo?
Why, you put him in a big ole bag full of baking soda and shake!

And while I was doing this, I began to smell smoke.

Ruh Ro?!

From the laundry room.

Huh?

Yeah. The t-shirt Roo wore last night was wedged between the wash tub and the lid. And it jammed the spin cycle. And my washing machine was SMOKING!

I don't know if it's ok or not. I'm scared to go back in there and try it with a new load.

J is not going to be happy with Elmo when he gets home from business travel tomorrow.
