shabby chic

The girls' room is nearly complete. J painted the beds white over spring break and I've tracked down some lovely shabby chic linens. They are a mix of vintage and new that blend together in a cozy comfy way.

I'm headed to Round Top this weekend to find some back up linens and maybe some other surprises to add the finishing touches.

Then, all that remains is to hang their princess canopies and reorganize the print groupings on the walls.

Oh, and teach the girls how to make their beds.

Paint me

Roo asked to have her nails painted this morning.

This was a first. I've been offering for, oh, a year or so, I think.

Em loves to have her nails painted, but Roo has always refused.

But this morning, she spotted the polish on the vanity and said "paint me".

She let me take care of her right hand but insisted on doing the left hand herself.

I'm a little in love.

First she wrote her name (with an extra M). Then, she happied all the letters, turning the M's into eyebrows. Then a rainbow over it all. Which looked a bit like hair, so, she added an extra smile under all the faces which were the big rainbow face's eyes. Comprende?

last days

Preschool wrapped up for the summer with a bang. First, the girls celebrated their birthday with the class. I made angel food cupcakes and we served them up with whipped cream and strawberries Em and Roo picked themselves the day before.

There were birthday crowns to be worn and they got to be the line leaders all day long. However, Roo usually chose to be the caboose instead.

The next week they had Hawaiian day complete with a luau. Plus, Ms. Melissa stocked the sensory table with an ocean scene. Lots of pebbles, water, play fish, etc. Roo was thrilled!

Then, that was followed up by messy art day. A fantastic extravaganza of paint coated balls to chunk at a paper covered wall; fly swatters dipped in paint; shaving cream and Plexiglas easels; floam; and a myriad of other things. It was a preschoolers dream come true.

The final week of preschool was celebrated with pizza and a bouncy house and a whole lot of sugar love for the teachers. We made dipped cupcakes, cake balls and chocolate coated cookies for Ms. Melissa and all the specials teachers.

It sure is going to be a long summer without them. But, man, have those sweet teachers earned a rest!

The girls are coming home with some adorable art work from school.

And lots of it is on their person. Today, Em had a big blob of dried Elmer's glue right between her eyebrows and a huge red painted thumb print on her forehead.

Em's Monkey Report said that she was quiet during rest time! Also, that she had a wonderful time playing in the gym, since outside time was curtailed by the rain.

Roo's Monkey Report said that her favorite thing today was playing in art class with purple floam. And that she called it 'dirty grapes'. Also, Ms. Melissa is now a believer. She was told that Roo reads. Well. And I think we got a bit of the nod and smile treatment from her. But today's report says 'She read to me. WOW!'

Abraka-take that out of your mouth- Doodle

So today was the day to go "action painting" at Abrakadoodle. A cool concept that combines the action packed life of a kid with a lot of washable paint. The ideal age set for this activity is the 3 to 5 range. Em and Roo were a bit young for it, but it was fun to try. Em did the action part and Roo did the painting part. That's why they're a great team.
