Funny Valentines

We've had a week of Valentines.
It's good to get your moneys worth out of a holiday and your seasonal clothing.

First up, a class party. Em and Roo made their own cards with a teensy bit of help.

Next up, several days of staggered packages and cards arriving in the mail. Awesomesauce!

Finally, the big puffy heart day. Em woke me asking if she could open her surprise right away. The gift bags were sitting on the table. I'm actually pretty impressed with their restraint.

Inside...

Hats!

A cupcake for Em and a Grover for Roo.

This is the only clear photo of the front of the hat...The stock photo from the store.
Because Roo insists on wearing it backwards. It looks like Grover is eating her head.

We met J after work at a diner for burgers and pizza. Then, on to the show. The Biscuit Brothers were performing across the street and the girls are big fans.

Both were nervous about the crowd and getting too close to the musicians.
They're bigger in real life.
The venue had a playscape behind the stage. We set up camp there and had a super time. Playing, rocking and enjoying the show.

Happy Valentine's Day to all y'all.

Love,
The Rowdy Girls

Outfit of the day

Roo compromised and wore a pink hat instead of the black and red cloche she originally chose.

Here she is playing 'wedding cake'.

This is how they showed up at my bedside to wake me one morning.

Seussville

Em asked me to be the moose. I wore the hat. J wore the hat. Em wore the hat.
We all were the moose.

She took the hat to Roo. "Roo, you be the moose."

Roo wobbled inside the hat.

She called out, "Help! My moose is loose!"

chicken littles

We love us some hats here at the Rowdy House. Daddy wears a ball cap nearly every day. The dress up trunk is packed full of every style imaginable. The dresser drawers have a decent selection of publicly acceptable head wear, too. Hats are tres chic.

Tonight, I rediscovered a long forgotton sun hat purchased for one of those loungy beach vacays we used to take. Much to Em's and Roo's amusement, I wore it during their bath time. As soon as they were out of the tub, they ran for the (current) favorite hats, cute pink crocheted newsboy caps. Then, they assigned J a felt fedora with a kind of oom-papa vibe.
So, there we were. Wearing our hats and prepping for bed.

The hats served as a gateway to imagination land. Somewhere along the line, little girls in hats morphed into baby chicks. Clucking and peeping chicks running about their room, flapping their arms wings. Naturally, J and I broke out in song. Well, sort of. We hummed the Chicken Dance.

You've not seen anything cuter than Em and Roo dancing the Chicken Dance in their nighties and pink caps. Most especially the finale with the booty wiggle.

Roo told me, on my way out the door, 'goodnight chicken mama'.

Goodnight chicken littles.

Roo's love of hats has now gone to the next level.

Watch out. You may be next.

Bugs, Biscuits & Bedtime

Bugs:
Only one more chance to get decent picture of Em and Roo in their costumes. They're butterflies. Except Em only likes the idea in theory. The whole putting-on-the-outfit part is a bust. Roo is more easygoing about it. But, I haven't been quick enough with the camera.

She's rocking the leotard and tutu part here.

And the wings, headpiece and tutu here. Put it all together and you got yourself a cute little fufferfly.

Biscuits:

Tonight the girls helped make biscuits. It was messy work that required a lot of clean up.
Roo washed up while Em ate everything left in the bowl.

Somewhere in the midst of snapping pictures, I looked down to see a toddler-sized hand print on my chest. All outlined in biscuit dough.

Bedtime:

Em insisted on wearing a hat to bed tonight. She preened in her crib mirror and cheesed for the camera happily.
So, Roo had to have a hat, too. Of course.
Note to the grandparents... this Christmas, whatever you're planning on... go ahead and buy 2.

the only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize

We love us some hat time.

Pretty Pretty Princess Tiaras
Roo barfed right after this picture.

Fun little Zutano outfit. Loved this one!

Baaaaawling in their Halloween costumes. This was supposed to be a cute picture with the border collie and the baby lambs. It was not a success.

Precious custom knitted cap by Aunt Joy with Em's name. Roo has one, too. Check out the new one she just made!

Needs shades to go with the hat. Roo looks like an ice cream cone in this hat.

Darling caps made by Miss Jana, a friend of Marmee's.
