Storytime by the light of an iPhone

The McGrands are in town and you've just never seen any two kids happier.

It was a rainy day. Perfect for a return visit to the museum storytime with our twin friends.

Afterwards, a new place to eat. A kitschy pharmacy with a well seasoned grill that turned out amazing cheeseburgers. And a soda fountain with yummy chocolate shakes.

We took up half of the dining space and were back to back with a lunch bunch club of golden girls. Blessedly, as we were leaving, they complimented the children on their behavior and asked sweetly curious questions about their twinships.

culture club

Thanks to an amazing review site for our area, we learned of a summer storytime being held at a local art museum.

So, we polished up our manners and reviewed the no-touching rule and struck off for some culture.

It was fabulous!

The docent read Katie and the Mona Lisa to the children while we sat among the paintings. Afterwards, she led a short discussion of the surrounding art while referencing the story. Just as everyone was getting the wiggles it was time to transition. We moved on to an instillation piece that the children were allowed to touch. Bonus!

The girls found it rather magical and were reluctant to leave.

However, the trip through the modern art wing really captured their imaginations. By the time we stopped for a reading of When the Cows Got Loose, both Em and Roo were paying more attention to the art on the walls than the story. In my opinion, that's not a bad thing.

At the conclusion of storytime we were afforded the opportunity to meander the museum on our own. How lovely to have access to this for the remaining weeks of the summer.

We'll definitely return.

The Culture Club

Thanks to (mostly) good behavior, Em and Roo had their outing extended. We picked up J from work and grabbed lunch at one of the awesome food stands around here.

Because nothing says culture like food out of a travel trailer.

Today it was fancy tacos and amazing cake balls.

Em and Roo were smitten with the idea of cake on a stick. Who can blame them?

they cheese on command now!

Every Friday we make a point to visit the library. Our favorite librarian leads storytime for the toddler set. To be honest, we're crashing it at this point. The girls are more than eligible for regular storytime. But, Ms. Teresa does such a great job with the readings and the songs and the puppet shows, why leave?!

When storytime finishes up, the girls rush to Ms. Teresa for a stamp on their hand and then boogie to the children's section for some indoor play time and more stories of their own selection.

Eventually, that wears thin, so we head outside. To ring the bell, climb about, and run around like a loon. It's all good. Especially now that they cheese on command.

Bedtime tonight was a semi formal affair. Hats and footy pajamas.

J is home. The girls are beyond happy. He read to them from Olivia and the Missing Toy.

A tale of a girl with a toy that disappears because her dog chewed it up. *ehem*

(Yes, Roo did not miss the parallels. Foofa was mentioned a few times during the reading.)

While stories were told, I snapped pictures. I was zooming in for a close up on Roo...

...when SHE popped up on the screen instead.

if you give a pig a pancake

Today was Pajama Day at preschool. Em and Roo have been so excited for this day. Roo woke up at 6:30am. Em woke up shortly afterwards because Roo was not quiet about being up for the day. As soon as I entered their room, Em said, "How 'bout my owl jammas?" So, they changed from one pair of jammas into another.

Preschool was hot to go. Flashlights with glow-in-the-dark star stickers for a warm up activity. Storytime included If You Give A Pig A Pancake.

Then, all the little piggies, er, monkeys ate a catered pancake lunch. With bacon. Ironic, right?

They had an awesome time.

And looked mighty cute doing it.

Swell

It was a nice morning. Snuggly time in the green chair with Nannie blankets and milk. A little PBS kids tv. A drive to the library with a good parking spot right in front. Story time, a look at the mascot (a pretty ball python), and some computer time. Then, down the block to get a cookie and window shop. Finally, back to the library to "ding" the bell.
