Toddler Slang, take 2

What you're likely to hear and what it actually means...

from Roo:
"my Mama's baby?"
translation: I would like you to pick me up right now.

"Spanish for Roo and Em."
translation: I'm going to hide outside the door with Sissy. Then, I want you to count to three in Spanish. When you get to tres, Sissy and I will burst through the doorway and yell SURPRISE!

"Roo, are you ok?!"
translation: I am stressing out about something.

from Em:

"Tickle blankie?"
translation: I want you to take my Nannie blanket and tickle me with it.

"Ouch! Ouch!"
translation: I want Maggie dog to stop looking at me.

This morning was our town's annual Easter egg hunt. And it was chilly!

We hung around just long enough for our noses and toes to get really frosty, and then we hopped back to the car.

just our size

Em and Roo are having lots of fun, of late, at our local children's museum. So far, we've roped, both, Aunt Joy and Aunt Kaki into going with us. Because I'm more than a little scared to go by myself with the girls. The place is 3 stories tall with many rooms to disappear into!

A crowd pleaser every time. The aquarium. Em now 'fish kisses' the glass after viewing the occupants. Cute. And gross.

Aunt Kak and the girls checking out the model train. Em pretended that she was playing the piano when she wiggled her fingers over all the control buttons.

No pretend needed here. Roo climbed right up, grabbed the sticks and told me she was going ot play the snare drum! Then, she said, " 1. 2. 1.2.3.4!"

Em and Aunt Kak rocked out, too.

A fun day! And everything was just their size.

You know it's been a long day for Mommy when...

... you find a Swedish fish stuck to your boob inside your bra and it's been there since this morning's Easter egg hunt.

Roo, stopping with each egg she found to dig out the candy. She's no fool.


Em skipped the entire playgroup egg hunt in favor of the playscape. Fortunately, Roo found enough candy, er, eggs for both of them.

As the 3rd birthday draws closer, I'm compelled to look back on where we've been. Here are Em's and Roo's monthly photo shoots up to 14 months. That would have been the point when it became completely impossible to keep them together in one place long enough to take a picture.

1 month old and just home from the NICU

2 months old and finally fitting into the newborn sized frog jammies

3 months old and just now getting around to a birth announcement photograph

4 months old and working hard to hold up those heads!

5 months old and totally interested in the camera

6 months old and laughing with ease

7 months old and this picture took at least 5 attempts... hello rolly polly!


8 months old... Merry Christmas!

9 months old and super tired after a long day at PawPaw's memorial service

10 months old and wearing Aunt Kaki's hand-me-down smocked day gowns

11 months old and too grown up for the Boppy pillow

Today kicks off the month of two-times-the-fun birthdays.

First off, we want to wish both Marmee and Mammaw a very happy 45th birthday!
(subtraction is our friend)

Em and Roo were a little reluctant to sing first thing in the morning.



We tried a cue card.

Roo read it, but she really didn't get her singing on. Em, either.
That is, until I turned the camera off and we got in the car. Of course. Then, you couldn't stop them from singing "Happy You YOU!" (that's Em's version).

Next on the calendar, we have Aunt Becky and Aunt Gail. And we'll wrap up the month of April with Em and Roo turning 3.
